Be informed about the Special Braille Printing Department’s actions

Through cooperation with the Braille Printing Department:

  • You comply with the Ministerial Decision no.: 91354/2017 of the Ministry of Economy and Development, according to which: The mass catering and leisure shops, hotels/rent rooms with catering facilities, wishing to upgrade their star rating systems, as well as businesses interested in joining subsidized programs (NSRF), are obliged to have price lists in Braille for the blind customers’ equal information; otherwise a fine will be imposed.
  • You ensure the accuracy and precision of the transcription of your texts in Braille, as the Lighthouse of the Blind of Greece is a Certified Center for Learning Braille and Transcribing the Greek and Latin alphabets to the Braille writing form and has the necessary know-how and special/modern equipment- It should be noted that blind proofreaders are involved in the process of transcribing and checking the texts.
  • You contribute substantially to the equal, adequate and quality servicing of blind customers, recognizing their undeniable right to non-dependent-unhindered access to any kind of information.
  • You make your business a friendly and accessible place for visually impaired customers, a significant condition and an important criterion of preference for this population.
  • You support the great mission of the Lighthouse of the Blind of Greece, contributing to the assurance of the quality and abundance of its free services to the visually impaired people in the country and also to expatriates abroad.

Production of price lists / information brochures/professional cards in Braille

The Special Braille Printing Department takes on professional printings in Braille of: any kind of books, documents, manuals, professional cards, menus and pricelists as well as any kind of information material of mass catering and leisure shops, restaurants, hotels, various Services, companies and so on throughout Greece.

Braille Printings are made on special printing paper that maintains the relief of the surface, with dimensions of 30.5cm by 23cm. In order to create, edit, print and proofread the first essay for each directory, the content of the catalogues is required to be sent through email in word files at info@fte.org.gr (plain text without boards, images e.t.c.) in Greek and English separately. The cost for the production of 1 Greek and 1 English catalogue, amounts to 50 € (including the printing-correction of the essay by a blind proofreader, as well as the production-splitting – composition of the catalogue – VAT 6% is included).

Production of signs and informational material in Braille / embossed graphics

The Special Printing Department reliably undertakes the production of Signs and inscriptions in Braille in aluminum and durable plastic (PVC), for indoor and outdoor areas of Archaeological Sites, Museums, Shops, Hotels, etc.

It also undertakes the printing of Embossed graphics, through the use of special heat-sensitive microcapsule paper (PIAF), such as Relief maps-guides of archaeological sites, evacuation plans-escape exits of buildings, hotels and so on. Given the above, the Special Braille Printing Department of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece, both through its primary operation for the direct service of all the reading and information/education needs of the blind people and through its wide network of collaborations with all fields of the wider community for the production of accessible material in Braille, greatly contributes to the equal, safe and unhindered access of blind and partially sighted citizens to all fields of human activity.
