A Lighthouse for All
Since 1946, the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece has been a reference point in the field of vision loss. Through a wide network of free social-supportive services with no charge and special material-technical infrastructures, it has been catering continually to all the important needs of the visually impaired adults in Greece and Greek expatriates, aiming to their social integration and professional rehabilitation for a decent, independent and with equal opportunities everyday life.
Services
In order to serve its high mission towards the visually impaired people, the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece has developed a wide range of Services of social, educational, creative and cultural character, offering multiple support and equal opportunities in all fields of everyday life.
Production Units
One of the statutory purposes of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece is the professional rehabilitation of the visually impaired people, which is greatly promoted thanks to the 3 Production Units-Sheltered Workshops under operation. The 3 Production Units are unique professional fields of their kind in the country, offering job opportunities to blind and visually impaired people. These Units employ blind and partially sighted workers, men and women, as well as people with other disabilities, according to the Greek legacy, a significant and unique fact, since the professional outlets and training opportunities, for these people are quite limited.
The production units have special and updated technological equipment and are certified with the ELOT EN ISO Quality System 9001: 2015, ensuring excellent quality levels.
Tactual Museum
The Tactual Museum is Unique in Greece & one of the 5 museums of its kind in the world. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it offers an equal chance to all visually impaired and sighted visitors of all ages to approach Cultural Heritage and Art through the sense of touch. At the same time, it highly raises social awareness regarding the field of vision loss through the provision of relevant information.
Braille Courses
The Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece, a Certified Association for Teaching the Braille Writing System, apart from the free of charge Braille lessons for the visually impaired people, also runs Braille educational seminars for the general population, mostly teachers and professors, who wish to certify their knowledge of Braille.
Braille Printings
The Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece, thanks to its long experience and know-how in ensuring conditions of equal accessibility for blind people, has been developing a wide network of collaborations through its Braille Printing Department with bodies, associations and companies all over Greece, majorly contributing this way to their conversion to accessible fields for All.
